Weekends are always great because, we have enough time to relax and have fun. While the boys are stuck in front of the TV, playing videos games or getting emotional over some stupid football match, the girls could either be at the spa with cucumber slices on their eyes or ( just like me) they could be in the kitchen, making a pile of chin chin for the entire family. Chin chin is a very common snack in Nigeria. With uncountable chin chin recipes out there, mine stands out. This is because of its unique shape, which sometimes confuses people. Continue reading for full recipe.
First, this is the list of everything you need
- 3 Cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1/4 Teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1/2 Teaspoon Nutmeg
- 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 Cup Sugar
- 1/4 Milk Powder
- 100g Butter
- 100ml Evaporated Milk
- 1 egg
Start by sifting the flour, nutmeg and baking powder into your mixing bowl. Then give it a good whisk.
Now add the salt, sugar, milk powder and give it another good whisk. Massage the softened butter into the mixture until you are sure the butter has been dispensed evenly.
Now, add the egg and the liquid milk. Mix very well until it forms a dough
This is where the works comes in. Now, traditionally, you should use a rolling pin to flatten the dough on a surface and make straight vertical and horizontal lines. But my method requires you to pinch, and make round balls just like you see in these photos.
This can stick sometimes because of the sugar. So what I usually do, is dust it a bit with flour.
Heat some oil in a pan and fry until golden brown
Make sure you let it cool down before you eat it. I usually tie mine in small packs and keep in the fridge. Thanks for reading and see you on my next recipe❤️
Yummy creamy,will try this..
Yes you definitely should… There is a lot of work in the shaping though😂
